Emily Burns Strayer (née Erwin, previously Robison; born August 16, 1972) is an American songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and a founding member of the country band the Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks.
Multi-instrumentalist best known as the banjo player and backing vocalist with the country pop group The Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks). The trio is known for songs like "Not Ready to Make Nice." She was made to play the banjo after her sister wanted to be the best fiddle player in the family.
Emily plays banjo, guitar, dobro, lap steel, bass, mandolin, accordion, and sitar. Born Emily Burns Erwin on August 16, 1972 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, to parents Paul Erwin and Barbara Trask, she grew up in Addison, a northern suburban town on the edge of Dallas, Texas.
